The changing light of day and the moods it creates are the foundations of my artwork. My work usually starts with a color idea, and then evolves into compositions in which color is the primary subject. Effectiveness and simplicity are my primary goals. My primary focus as an artist is to make so simple that has an abundance of meaning, emotion, emphases, etc. Since the late 1980s, my work consisted of deconstructing the American view on sexuality and try to make it appear to be wholesome. I was raised to be different, to NEVER go along with the flow of society. By my parent having me in that type of environment – sex didn’t appear to me to be taboo. During this time I was exposed to the work of Robert Crumb and Mad Magazine. Those two entities open my eyes to the world of “underground” comics and gave me the tool I needed to express myself the way I wanted without censoring myself. Two of my favorite pieces are, Sexual Censorship, where it’s a red, white & blue condom that has a warning label stating: Using Condoms Gives You Cooties and a Trojan Ad, displaying the sensuality of sex without being so graphic. In five years I see myself as a lip sync animator and/or a special effect artist for a motion picture company displaying my work to the world. My other future plan is to teach. I will teach students, providing a fun and comfortable environment where they can advance their individual creative skills within an energetic community of artists.
